Americana Mixed Media Tag for Yvonne Blair Designs

0

Hi everyone, I hope your summer is off to a great start!  We are getting ready to celebrate our Independence Day here in the United States, and Yvonne has created some extra special stamps for this summer's release perfect for your patriotic themed projects.  Here are a few I plan to feature in today's post:

I created a mixed media tag for today's project to use these awesome stamps.  I love this Americana theme and wanted to experiment with some grunge techniques that I thought might work well on a larger canvas.   Sure enough they turned out great, and I can't wait to apply them to a larger surface!

I used my 3x5 GelliArts® plate to create the background of the tag. Then used a Ranger Ink, Archival Black ink pad and The Grunge Numbers, and Military Alphabet stamp to add some character to the background.  The negative spaces left from the mono-printing seemed bright from the manila tag, so I used a Tea Dye Distress ink pad from Tim Holtz, and Ranger to distress the acrylic ink and add an aged look to the surface.  To finish off the edges, I darkened them with the black Archival ink.  Now it was time to make my embellishments.

I used a  Large Sizzix Star Die to cut out starts from Shrink Plastic Film, and punched a hole with my the large side of my Crop-A-Dile to make my stars into charms later.  I stamped The Pledge stamp with Archival Ink onto the plastic.  When you heat the shrink plastic with a heat gun it makes the cutest embellishments.   After the plastic cooled, I painted the backs with white acrylic paint so the words would pop against my dark background of my tag.   Two of my stars were threaded through the twine at the top of the tag, and the third is glued to the tag.  To make them appear to float, I added a glob of hot glue to the tag, allowing it to slightly cool, then gently tapped the star on one side of the glue so that the star is only adhered at an angle.

Next, I stamped my sentiment onto vellum, and embossed it with thick white embossing powder.  To create a vintage look, I ripped the edges and distressed the back of the vellum with the same Tea Dye ink. I used the Military Alphabet stamp on the red clothes pin so that it wasn't so "clean", then finished off the tag with some random embellishments from the bucket on my desk.

Here is a quick video showing my process

Here is the finished tag!

This was a quick little project that would make a great home décor project if you chose to repeat this process on a canvas instead of a tag.  It would also make a great design for a patriotic themed party invitation, or masculine themed military card!

Thanks for hanging out with me today!  I hope you have had a great time. If you have these stamps and decide to follow along, share with us how you are using them in social media with the #YBArtFun

Yvonne Blair Designs Art Girls

2

Happy New Year everyone! I hope your year is off to a great start. I have some exciting news to share with you to kick start the year in the right direction! My great friend Yvonne Blair, whom I met several years ago when hanging out at my Local Scrapbook Store, She Scrapbooks, contacted me over Christmas break and told me she was releasing her second line of art journal stamps this week with Impression Obsession. She then asked me to be one of her Art Girls! A lot of SQUEALS took place, as I'm sure you can imagine. I'm so very excited for her, she is so sweet and talented, and I know my sweet followers are going to love her stamps and journaling products.

http://www.yvonneblair.com/2016/01/very-very-exciting-news.html

I'm so excited to be along talented group of ladies. Yvonne Blair in the top left, then Lynne Forsythe, and bottom right Bobbie Smith. Get to know all of these wonderful ladies here...

Yvonne's collections will be perfect quotes and doodle art drawings for all your art journals, Bible journal pages, cards, and mixed media projects. I can't wait to share more with you! Here is a little sneak peek at two of the stamps that Yvonne is releasing this week at CHA.

Her pieces are painted with turquoise on the tag so that they "shine" against the warm colors of pink and gold on the tag. The Shine Your Light Stamp says "Shine The Unique Light That is Only Yours To Shine." I added the sentiment onto a piece of acetate (recycled packaging) with gold foil, then painted the back with turquoise paint to make it pop. I just love the hand Sketch Butterfly Stamp was foiled onto a piece of cardstock painted turquoise, then I added doodled white lines with a gel pen to fill in the negative spaces. I love that the areas of the butterfly are left open so that you can doodle inside the wings, giving it a unique look every time you use it.

To find out more about Yvonne and her stamps, please visit her blog at: http://www.yvonneblair.com/

Her stamps can be purchased at: http://www.iostamps.com/

Thanks for stopping in today! Happy New Year!

Tonya

August 2015 Ustream Recap

0

Thank you to everyone who came out to watch the Ustream live last night.  We had a lot of fun creating this beautiful tag.

In this show, I shared with you the technique that I used to create the roses seen in the background of the tag. Isn't this just scrumptious all by itself?

Here you can really see the details in the painted flowers.  I decided to decorate the tag with a scene using Prima's Parlor  Resin pieces.  you can see here how the flowers in the scene match the ones in the background, offering a beautiful 3D effect.

Don't forget to use those scraps when creating floral clusters.  This tag project has a few remnants that I found in my stash.  A small piece of lace is used as the screen in the window, a small stem from a floral spray, half a piece of metal filigree is just enough to tuck into the edge of my spray, and the butterfly was actually punched from the branding strip of  apiece of wood paper packaging.

Adding a little glass glitter mixed with glossy accents, really helps to add sparkle to the shadows, and bridges the gaps between the embellishment cluster elements.

Want to see how I created this beautiful tag from start to finish.  Here is the video recordings from last night's show.  I was interrupted briefly by a lighting storm, so the show is broken up into two videos.

Watch on YouTube

I really love all the details on this tag.  This painting technique would make an amazing background on all of your projects.  See if you  can create one similar and share it with me in your social media outlets by adding #FollowingTonyaGibbs, or tag  me on Facebook.  I love to see what you create!

Thanks for stopping in today,

Tonya Gibbs

Love Summer Art - Wander Tag

4

Hey bloggers - welcome to day 1 of the #LoveSummerArt collaborative project with YouTube Artists around the WORLD!  The event runs from July 17 - 20th.  To find these artist,  just type #LoveSummerArt  in your YouTube search bar.

This is a super fun way for you to discover new artists on YouTube, and be inspired by their work. All genres of art are participating - Exciting Right!     I've already met some super talented artists, just in the planning stage.

Today, I'm sharing with you a Mixed Media Tag that I've created using up some of those pesky  scraps and "one hit wonders" that I have laying around on my desk. My tag base is a pair of my husband's old jeans  - trust me - they have never looked this pretty, EVER!

My project was actually inspired by the Wander Philosophy Tags from Tim Holtz.  In the Summer you should always "Wander" or "travel" and explore. What better to illustrate this philosophy than a Dragon Fly - Right?  Here in Florida, we have these black dragon flies that have this beautiful teal iridescent colors, but at first glance they look black. I wanted to duplicate this effect on my tag.  I used Lindy's Stamp Gang, Vellum and an IndigoBlu Dragonfly stamp.   In the video I will show you how I created this handsome little fellow to mimic the ones in my garden!

Here is the video showing how I created this tag from Start To Finish

Thanks for stopping in today! Don't forget to check back tomorrow, where I will be sharing a Layout Process video.

Thanks,
Tonya Gibbs

Inspiration Mixed Media Tag

4

Hi, everyone,  wow  I feel like it has been forever since I was able to get any real Inky Finger Fun Time.  I've been moving into a new home, and had LOTS of things to unpack.  I have to tell myself to get the yuck stuff done first before the fun times, or I'll never get back to the YUCK stuff.  Do you know what I mean?  Funny thing, when you start moving and cleaning inspiration finds you EVERYWHERE.   I would find an old product that I forgot about, and BOOM I wanted to play.  I would see something new and BOOM I wanted to play.  Well I'm all settled in (a few minor chores left to deal with), and the fun times are rolling on in!

Today I'm honored to be a guest designer over on Limor Webber's Blog. I have created a tag tutorial, and hope you have a chance to stop over and take a look at the video tutorial.

I'm using the BRAND NEW Limor Webber Designs - Limor Circles Stamps by IndigoBlu.   She just restocked them, so if you have been looking for them, click the link above and grab them up!  They have been a sell out world wide for over a month now!

http://www.limorwebber.com/product/limor-circles-limor-webber-designs-stamps-by-indigoblu/

This is one of my favorite sets in her latest collection.  I think I've used them on everything since I got them!    This set has 21 stamps, giving you endless possibilities for using them! I'm so happy for Limor's success, her new collection has been a sell out world wide.  Great news though - Limor recently restocked them in her store, so get them while you can!

Here is a look at the finished tag.   Isn't it GORGEOUS?    You can find details about my process, and a video tutorial over on her blog today!

Dreams Mixed Media Tag

2

We were in a gift shop in Savannah, GA  and I saw this quote on a book "If your Dreams Don't Scare You, They Aren't Big Enough!"  Honestly, the statement is so true.   The goals in my life where I had to overcome the fear of something, have been my most rewarding achievements.

I also recently purchased a few feather molds. I shared, a few weeks back, my collection of feather clay pieces on Instagram/Facebook. The quote reminded me of the feathers, and inspired the theme of the tag.

Those who follow me, also know, I'm not a huge Halloween fan. However, in the spirit of the season, I decided to keep my tag along the "nightmare" gothic/dark side.   Since the quote uses the words scare and dream, I felt that this would make a perfect theme.

Purple is not usually my first color choice, but this year I have really been drawn to the color.  I decided to keep my tag's colors simple with tones of purple, black and gold.  All perfect for night and Halloween!    I used the new Steampunk Gelatos® set from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Black Cherry and the Black Licorice Gelatos® to color the base of the tag.

Here is a glimpse at my finished tag.

I have also prepared a process video showing you how I created the tag.

I hope you have enjoyed my tag.  Thanks for stopping in today,

Sea Side Mixed Media Tag

5

Oh my I'm having so much fun creating tags lately.    Today I want to share with you my latest tag. The Sea Side theme was inspired by cleaning my room -  believe it or not!   I ran across the Nantucket stamp set from Pink Paislee and was reminded that I've always wanted to use the sea horse from the stamp set.

This stamp set has been discontinued, however, I encourage you to look through your stash and find a stamp set that you have rarely if ever used, and center a tag around one of the images in the set.

I chose these three Lindy's Stamp Gang colors to color my tag.   Top to Bottom:  Glory of The Seas Gold, Cosmopolitan Pink, and Tiffany's Blue.

For texture I used Ranger's Crackle Medium on my sea horse.  Isn't he gorgeous propped up against my flowers?   I also used Faber Castell Design Memory Crafts® Textural Accent - Glass Bead Glitter Gel to give the illusion of sea sprays.   I love how the glitter reflects in the light. Pools of water were added with Glossy Accents.

I look at tags as the ultimate creative play. The small space can be really challenging, and push my creative juices.  I rarely do journal pages, instead I use tags to  experiment with mediums and techniques.

Here is a process video of me creating the tag.

It is so fun to see all those tiny scraps come together to create such beautiful tags.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Tonya

Mixed Media Autumn Tag

2

Hi everyone, I think fall is my favorite time of year.  The air is getting crisp, the leaves are changing, and vibrant pops of color are everywhere.  I was cleaning my studio and found an old vellum quote I've had in my stash forever it says "Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn."  So I decided to create a tag.

For my leaf foliage I used these two Die-Namite Dies

Leafy Branch Die

http://www.die-namites.com/Flowering-Branch_p_51.html

Look at all that yummy depth, rich color and texture!

Here is a process video of me creating this tag.

Mixed Media Tag

0

I just LOVE mixed media tags. I love to create them, I love to get them and I love to share them.  This is one of my favorite ways to use scraps, and experiment with new techniques.  When I created this tag, I gave myself  two little challenges.
  1. ONLY USE THE OLDER PRODUCTS

This was easy enough -  I really don't think there was a single item on this tag that was new!   I used old Rub-ons that are so old they were cracking (LOL)  It is time for them to go!   And all the other products with exception of the mediums and pearls were found in a bucket of scraps on my desk!

2.  Do something new!    -   I wanted to experiment with different sized pearls and adding them to my floral sprays.  So I decided to use the Glass Bead Glitter Gel from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®.  You can see the micro beads from the Glass Bead Glitter Gel adding additional texture to the larger pearls.  LOVED this technique!   They remind me a little of grapes, and may consider that with a grape fine spray in the future!

I just love this transparency that I printed several years ago when I took the Rhonna Designs' 21 Day challenge in 2010.   I added Patina Alcohol Ink to the back so that the lettering was easier to read.

This little Nylon butterfly has been around for a long time. I just keep putting him back in the bucket.  Now he has a cozy place to sit!

I have prepared a process video of me creating the tag.

Here is the finished tag!  Isn't it GORGEOUS!

I love how this tag looks like rusted metal.  The Patina effect is simply gorgeous!  There is a ton of texture, and so much eye candy here!

Remember to Save the Date - Our next Ustream will be October  6 at 8:30 p.m. EST.  I hope you can join me.  I plan to do some chalkboard art!

Thanks for stopping in today,

Tonya
