Yvonne Blair Designs Art Girls

2

Happy New Year everyone! I hope your year is off to a great start. I have some exciting news to share with you to kick start the year in the right direction! My great friend Yvonne Blair, whom I met several years ago when hanging out at my Local Scrapbook Store, She Scrapbooks, contacted me over Christmas break and told me she was releasing her second line of art journal stamps this week with Impression Obsession. She then asked me to be one of her Art Girls! A lot of SQUEALS took place, as I'm sure you can imagine. I'm so very excited for her, she is so sweet and talented, and I know my sweet followers are going to love her stamps and journaling products.

http://www.yvonneblair.com/2016/01/very-very-exciting-news.html

I'm so excited to be along talented group of ladies. Yvonne Blair in the top left, then Lynne Forsythe, and bottom right Bobbie Smith. Get to know all of these wonderful ladies here...

Yvonne's collections will be perfect quotes and doodle art drawings for all your art journals, Bible journal pages, cards, and mixed media projects. I can't wait to share more with you! Here is a little sneak peek at two of the stamps that Yvonne is releasing this week at CHA.

Her pieces are painted with turquoise on the tag so that they "shine" against the warm colors of pink and gold on the tag. The Shine Your Light Stamp says "Shine The Unique Light That is Only Yours To Shine." I added the sentiment onto a piece of acetate (recycled packaging) with gold foil, then painted the back with turquoise paint to make it pop. I just love the hand Sketch Butterfly Stamp was foiled onto a piece of cardstock painted turquoise, then I added doodled white lines with a gel pen to fill in the negative spaces. I love that the areas of the butterfly are left open so that you can doodle inside the wings, giving it a unique look every time you use it.

To find out more about Yvonne and her stamps, please visit her blog at: http://www.yvonneblair.com/

Her stamps can be purchased at: http://www.iostamps.com/

Thanks for stopping in today! Happy New Year!

Vintage Christmas Chalkboard

0

This is without a doubt my favorite time of year! It is the only Holiday I decorate for and love to create home made items every year. Today I would like to share with you a simple project that is perfect for your Holiday Home Décor.  Today's project is going to feature Blue Fern Studios' Vintage Christmas Collection

Magical 12x12 papers

Wonderland 12x12 paper

I started with a 12x12 chalkboard that I picked up at a local box store.  I crackled it for a different project, and then simply erased the chalk saying to use for this project.  The crackle base is gold with white on top. This offered the perfect frame for my vintage Christmas project.  You can buy a chalkboard ready to use or make one by painting the glass inside a frame with chalkboard paint.

I fussy cut the images from the two paper collections to use in the corners of my board.  To dress up the flat paper, I added a bit of white Puff Paint to the snow on the tree,  yellow Stickles for the ornaments and Glossy accents over the berries.   Then I clustered flowers, and miniature Christmas tree ornaments around the paper to give it depth and interest.  To help it all sparkle  I spritzed it was Lindy's Stamp Gang Glitz Spritz - Blazing Sun.

Aren't these little Candy Miniature ornaments adorable?  And they add the perfect touch to the corners.

I just love how the flowers, ornaments and candies mimic the look of the paper.

Coordinating Chipboard - Santa's Sleigh

When I saw this Chipboard piece I just had to have it.  I mean look at all the tiny fine details in the deer and sleigh.

To add a golden element to the layout, I carefully heat embossed the chipboard with gold embossing powder.  Then made sure the antlers for the deer were safely mounted to the frame of the board so that they would not become damaged.

Here is a quick video showing how this chalkboard came together.

Here are a few tips for creating your own chalkboard lettering.

  • For a new chalkboard - make sure you prime the board by rubbing chalk all over it, then erasing it.  You can use your heat gun to blow away dust residue but don't "wet" the board.
  • Use a pencil sharpener to keep a fine tip on your chalk
  • Practice Practice Practice -  It may help you visualize placement and spacing of the letter shapes if you practice first on a piece of paper.
  • Don't draw your letters too close together.
  • Thicken the lines on the down strokes to make them look better.
  • use a cotton swab to smooth away unwanted lines

I hope I have inspired you to create a chalkboard for your Holiday Home Décor.  If so, please make sure you come back and tell me about it, or #FollowingTonyaGibbs in your social media outlets so I can see your project.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Tonya

Amazing Heart Layout Tutorial

3

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a great day!   I have a super cute mixed media layout to share with you today using lots of YUMMY Blue Fern Studios' products.    For today's layout I selected these beautiful papers from the new Love Story Collection.

Amazing Heart

Calling Cards

I don't think beautiful begins to describe these papers.  They are a really nice heavy stock and hold up well to wet mediums, and heavy embellishments.  The patterns are so romantic. I used the papers today to scrapbook a photo of my sweet niece Austyn.

I selected these lovely Paisley & Vine Coordinating Chipboard pieces from Blue Fern Studios to play center stage in my embellishment cluster.

As you can see from the photo below they work fantastic in your embellishment clusters to add texture, and weight without adding a lot of bulk.

I covered them in Crackle Texture Paste.  Then painted them with Lindy's Stamp Gang Rudolph's Nose Red, and Edelweiss Moss Green. Since the paste has a bit of silicone it did resist the pigment.  If you do this technique, remember to choose dark colors.   The center of the flowers were removed and the holes were filled with hot glue to keep it elevated. This gives my flowers more depth.  Then I used a Wink of Stella Gold Glitter pen to give them more pop and a hint of sparkle. The entire piece was also distress with Tim Holtz' Tea Die Distress Ink to make them ore vintage looking, and bring out the crackle.

For added texture around the layout, I used white embossing powder and the brick patterned stamp from Blue Fern Studios' Autumn Anthology Line -  Essentials Texture.  The stamping offers a great foundation for my embellishment cluster and framing.

For the embellishment clusters, I tucked in pieces of lace, lace applique flowers, organza roses, and mulberry lilies.   I also used a few Tim Holtz remnant rubs to add a few butterflies.  These black elements help to bring the black from the background up into the foreground, and help ground the elements.   Every good embellishment cluster needs a little metal.  So I mimicked the patterned paper and added an arrow, crown, heart and key.  The arrow helps to draw your eye back to the photo.  Since all these pieces were different finishes,  I added gesso to them to help them look cohesive.   To finish off the layout I created a mixture of Glossy Accents, silver German glass glitter, and clear beads then tucked it into the shadows, and  odd transitional areas around the base of the layout.  This offers a sophisticated sparkle.

Here is a video showing you the step by step process

I think this is one of my all time favorite layouts.   I absolutely adore this paper collection. You will probably see me use it quite a bit!   I love how my photo just pops against the softer colors.  The Layout has lots of  details, but is not over done!

Thank you for stopping in today.  I hope you have a learned a few new techniques.

Love Summer Art - Layout Splish Splash

0

Hey bloggers - welcome to day 2 of the #LoveSummerArt collaborative project with YouTube Artists around the WORLD!  The event runs from July 17 - 20th.  To find these artist,  just type #LoveSummerArt  in your YouTube search bar.

This is a super fun way for you to discover new artists on YouTube, and be inspired by their work. All genres of art are participating - Exciting Right!

Today  I wanted to share with you a layout that I created from some of the Prints we pulled in the July Ustream.   Remember these...  If you missed the ustream, it is linked up in the right bar.

I decided to create a layout and use these guys as my frame around my photo, and as part of my ephemera in my embellishment clusters.

I have shared many times in the past few months, I'm falling in love with hand lettering.  I love the look of the painted imperfect title that I did with watercolors then fussy cut around the.  Isn't this just a fun way to add a title to this wonderfully splashy layout?

I also tucked in several of the die-cuts that I've been using to pull prints with in the last few months. Their interesting patterns keep my layout looking fresh, and unique.

I used Faber-Castell Design Memory Crafts® Glaze Medium, Prima's Bubble stencil and little Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals to create the splashed background.  I love customizing my layouts this way.

To see how I did this, I've prepared a process video

Thank you for stopping in today.  I hope I have inspired you to create a fun summer layout.  Don't forget to check back tomorrow. I have a Mixed Media card for you.

Also don't forget to check out the #LoveSummerArt  over on YouTube.  I've been inspired by so many wonderful artists this week, and have found some new people to stalk (I mean follow).

Sea Side Mixed Media Tag

5

Oh my I'm having so much fun creating tags lately.    Today I want to share with you my latest tag. The Sea Side theme was inspired by cleaning my room -  believe it or not!   I ran across the Nantucket stamp set from Pink Paislee and was reminded that I've always wanted to use the sea horse from the stamp set.

This stamp set has been discontinued, however, I encourage you to look through your stash and find a stamp set that you have rarely if ever used, and center a tag around one of the images in the set.

I chose these three Lindy's Stamp Gang colors to color my tag.   Top to Bottom:  Glory of The Seas Gold, Cosmopolitan Pink, and Tiffany's Blue.

For texture I used Ranger's Crackle Medium on my sea horse.  Isn't he gorgeous propped up against my flowers?   I also used Faber Castell Design Memory Crafts® Textural Accent - Glass Bead Glitter Gel to give the illusion of sea sprays.   I love how the glitter reflects in the light. Pools of water were added with Glossy Accents.

I look at tags as the ultimate creative play. The small space can be really challenging, and push my creative juices.  I rarely do journal pages, instead I use tags to  experiment with mediums and techniques.

Here is a process video of me creating the tag.

It is so fun to see all those tiny scraps come together to create such beautiful tags.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Tonya

Wow, this has been a super exciting week.  I'm almost sad to see it go.  Today I wanted to share with you a mixed media canvas.

These gorgeous Botanicals from Petaloo complimented Marion's paper lines beautifully! Here are the products I used to create this canvas.

My background was inspired by a rusted sign.  I really wanted the edges to have that rusted metal effect.  I used the Tattered Angels Natural Paint System - Mahogany  but instead of "as directed"  I blotched it on with a paint brush. Once it was dry I applied some crackle paint from Ranger to give it a blistered rusty effect.

Oh my can you say Luscious? Look at these wonderful embellies all clustered together, with a few extra fussy cut pieces from the Marion Smith Paper collections. I absolutely love how these all work so well together.

Butterfly Tag

0

Pink Paislee's new Hope Chest collection has inspired today's post.  I'm working on a  project with the papers for my next Ustream, May 6 at 8:30 p.m. EST, and wanted to try some techniques out on a tag before the class. Today, I would like to share with you the techniques used to create the background and blue flowers.

Here is a glimpse at the products that I used  when making the tag.

Ranger: Archival Ink in Black & Vermillion, Distress ink Evergreen Bough, Rusty Hinge, Glue & Seal, Tag;  Prima: Distress Tool; Hampton Arts: Remember This Background stamp, Tattered Angels: Wheatfields Glimmer Mist, True Turquoise (optional substitute more blue than green), Island Spring Glimmer Glam, Vintage Pattern Paper, Paint Brush.

Cover the tag with Glue & Seal or Matt Medium, then cut interesting pattern strips from the pattern paper, and use the glue and seal over the top to adhere it to the tag's service.  Let the tag dry completely then trim the extra paper from the edges.

Shake up the bottle of Island Spring Glimmer Glam really well, then splatter it around the tag.   Let it dry completely before going to the next step. The Glam is like a glaze and will leave glossy splatters.   You can use a heat tool to speed up this process.  Using a heat gun will also cause the glam to bubble offering a different texture.

Make sure the tag is completely dry.  Then use the Prima distress tool to distress the edges.  If you do not have this tool, use scissors to scrape down the sides.

Use the Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to darken the edges and the creases on the top of the tag.  Really work the distress ink into the tag.  Use your heat tool to set the distress ink into the tag, as it will take longer to dry on its own due to the glue & seal.

Completely saturate the top of the tag with the Rusty Hinge Distress ink, then use a baby wipe or paper towel to gently wipe down the surface.  The Rusty Hinge will give the tag an aged color. Again, use your heat tool to set the distress ink.

Use a butterfly stamp with Jet Black Archival Ink to stamp the images around the tag. be sure to rotate your stamp so that your butterflies are coming from different directions.  Leaving some white space is important - Don't over do it.

Use a text based stamp like this one from Hampton Arts with some Vermillion Archival Ink. Again be sure to rotate your stamp to add interest.  I love how this stamp says "LOVE TODAY!"  So I wanted to make sure it was stamped in the upper right hand corner so that I didn't cover those words up.

For the flower, I used a white Prima Flower that had pointed leaves to mimic the flower found in the paper collection.  Since the flowers in the paper collection were also a teal color, I decided to cover them with Evergreen Bouge Distress Ink.   dont' worry if white areas are exposed, you will fix those with the next step.

Since distress is reactive with water, and Glimmer Mist is water based, I used the Wheatfields Glimmer Mist to fill in the white spaces tone down the brightness of the blue/green. Dry the flower with a heat gun until it is completely dry.  Using your heat gun, will also singe the edges making them appear more natural.

Fold the flower in half and apply hot glue to the inside to hold it in place as demonstrated above.

Now, fold the from left to right in half again, adding glue between these two layers.

Fold in half from left to right one more time, applying glue to the inside of this fold and pinch together at the bottom.  These flowers will be tucked into the floral spray on the right of the tag.

To finish the tag off, I used scrap parts from a Prima Valentine Spray, Metal Trinkets, and a clock from Prima.  The floral spray was white so I used the Wheatfield Glimmer Mist to color the heart and flowers.   The charm quote at the top is from the Girl's Paperie.  The butterfly I showed you guys how to make a few weeks ago in a previous post.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Tonya Gibbs
