August 2015 Ustream Recap

0

Thank you to everyone who came out to watch the Ustream live last night.  We had a lot of fun creating this beautiful tag.

In this show, I shared with you the technique that I used to create the roses seen in the background of the tag. Isn't this just scrumptious all by itself?

Here you can really see the details in the painted flowers.  I decided to decorate the tag with a scene using Prima's Parlor  Resin pieces.  you can see here how the flowers in the scene match the ones in the background, offering a beautiful 3D effect.

Don't forget to use those scraps when creating floral clusters.  This tag project has a few remnants that I found in my stash.  A small piece of lace is used as the screen in the window, a small stem from a floral spray, half a piece of metal filigree is just enough to tuck into the edge of my spray, and the butterfly was actually punched from the branding strip of  apiece of wood paper packaging.

Adding a little glass glitter mixed with glossy accents, really helps to add sparkle to the shadows, and bridges the gaps between the embellishment cluster elements.

Want to see how I created this beautiful tag from start to finish.  Here is the video recordings from last night's show.  I was interrupted briefly by a lighting storm, so the show is broken up into two videos.

I really love all the details on this tag.  This painting technique would make an amazing background on all of your projects.  See if you  can create one similar and share it with me in your social media outlets by adding #FollowingTonyaGibbs, or tag  me on Facebook.  I love to see what you create!

Thanks for stopping in today,

August 4 Ustream Recap

1

Wow we had a fantastic time last Monday night. Lots of Yummy techniques using our Gelatos®, Whipped Spackle, Gesso, Gel Medium, and Glaze from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®, Bo Bunny Sentiments, Heidi Swapp Stencil, and Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor paper.

As always thank you to the Scrapbooking with M.E. Boutique for managing the sales of the kits, and to their amazing Design Team for promoting and following up with future posts using these products!

In the show we created 4 very different card designs!

On this card, I showed you how to avoid "mud" and create colorful backgrounds.  We mixed the Margarita and Watermelon Gelatos® to create this lovely orange that we mixed with the Whipped Spackle for texture and depth. I also demoed how to resist with Gesso.

I showed how the Gelatos® look on a black cardstock.  I love that they look just like chalk!  So pretty. This card could easily be a masculine card by changing out the feminine colors.

On this card, we did a resist with embossing powder.  I also showed you how to combine stamps in the set to create a word cloud effect, and interesting background!

And finally we used the Gelatos® as a watercolor medium. Sometimes "Mud" is what you really want. Like when I created the tree branch above.   So I showed you how to use the Margarita Mix, Snow Cone, and Raspberry Gelatos® to create a pastel brown.

Congrats to our winner - Jeanie Ellis on being our winner of the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Mixed Media Kit!

Here is a link to the Playlist with all three parts of the video tutorial.

In addition to the supplies above, I also used the following:

  • Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® PITT® Stamper's Big Brush Artist Pen in Black
  • Studio Calico - Wood Veneer Bird
  • Cardstock  Black, White, and Cream
  • Cuttlebug Embossing Jacket - James' set
  • Twine
  • Die-Namite Dies Flowering Branch Die
  • Die-Namite Dies Swirly Butterfly
  • Prima Flower
  • Sequins
  • Tissue Paper (white)
  • Butterfly Stamp (brand unknown)
  • Stampendous Dream Text Stamp
Thank you so much to everyone who came to the show live.  I hope those of you joining in the recordings have as much fun as we did live.   Share with me in the comments below how you use your Gelatos®.

Amber - Ombre Style Layout

0
I stumbled across this photo that I took a year ago of my Niece Amber.  I decided to use it for the Prima BAP contest for August. When chosing the color pallet for the layout - I wanted to play off her name Amber and chose an orangish/amberish tone.   I've been really inspired lately by the "Ombre" style  (Note: Ombre is a French word meaning "Shaded") where you create something monochromatic that starts with the richest value and fades into the lightest value. I thought the Songbird collection would be perfect for incorporating my color choices as well as the sketch.

I love how the branches on the printed paper, lead your eye back down to the soft focused photo of Amber. To enhance the sunburst and add a few layers, I used my Silhouette to cut a doily shape from a sheet of Flights of Fancy Prima paper that has the Fruit of the Spirit written all over it. This is one of my favorite sheets and has been in my hoard vault for years. The floral spray also sends your eye back to the journaling that flanks the burst of linen. I painted one of the Prima Shabby Resin birds with Worn Jeans, and Shabby Tote Prima Chalks and perched him over the title.

Since the sketch used a sunburst as the focal point I decided to rip linen into small strips and soak it in Pumpkin Color wash on one end and then let it fade to a more watered down wash on the other end. After it dried, I spray the entire linen piece with gold glimmer using a Prima Floral screen. This gave a subtle pattern to the rich orange tones. I used some molding paste and circle stencil on the linen with a Prima Hexagon stamp to give a little depth.

Here is the sketch designed by Prima's Marie-Nicolas Alliot.

I love how this layout turned out.  It has lots of details but still maintains the integrity of the sketch.  Did you participate in the Prima August BAP?  I would love to see your entry, please post them on the Artsy Addicts Facebook Group Wall and make sure to tag me so I see it.
