Grace In Her Heart Layout

Hi everyone,  with Mother's Day right around the corner, I thought I would do a layout this week paying respect to this lovely woman who recently went on to be the Lord!  She is my husband's Grandmother, and I have had the pleasure of loving her for over thirty years!

 

I picked one of the sentiments from Yvonne's  Everyday Quotes 1 sets "She has fire in her soul and grace in her heart" to Title this layout, as it is the perfect way to describe Grandma May.  She spent everyday of her life motivating those around her, but the words on her tongue were always singing the praises of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 The sentiment was added with gold embossing powder so that it shines bright on the layout. The gold also works nicely with the foiling accents in the ephemera from the paper collection.

I wanted my layout to remain simple. So I chose a dot embossed white texture paper from Bazzill for the background. Then I lightly spritzed it with  Lindy's Stamp Gang, Edelweiss Moss Green.  This is a nice green with gold shimmer.   It gives a bokken effect around my garden cluster.

Granny loved her flower gardens, and she was laid to rest on Earth Day this year. I wanted lots of flowers to frame her photograph. 

I used papers and ephemera from American Crafts. The ephemera is Jen Hadfield,  Home Made, and the papers are Dear Lizzy's Saturday collections Central Park and Skyline.

When we lose someone we love, it can be difficult.  But I am always thankful that I have photos to reflect back on those happy memories that we have shared with them in the past.  Thank you all for sharing this moment with me today.  I encourage you to hug someone special, and snap a photo of them. Then pull out a paper collection, and create a layout.

Ustream Recap from May 16, 2015

Hi everyone, it was so much fun hanging out with you this beautiful Saturday.  It was nice to chat with a few of my international friends for a little while. Thank you so much for everyone who came out to watch the show live. 

Today, I decided to create a layout using some of the techniques I taught in the Ustream earlier this month.   I'll link up that post below for you to reference.   I was totally inspired to do today's project based on this "On Trends" paper collection by My Mind's Eye

While my flowers are not exactly like the ones in the paper collection, I think they compliment it well. I used the papers to back my photos and offer the title to my layout.  

I used the Prima - Scenic Route Watercolor Pencils  to create my background. 

and the IndigoBlu  Flitter Box Kit to create the Foiling.

  To finish off the layout and offer some dimension,  I added a floral spray of beautiful Prima flowers. After the class I decided to fill in with some doodles and add a few more flowers.

Harmony Canvas July 7 Ustream Recap

Ustream - June 28 - Follow up post

WOW - this has been a crazy busy week. Today I want to follow up the Special Broadcast last Saturday. It was a lot of fun spending the morning / afternoon with you guys.

I used the Teresa Collins Designs Urban Market kit that we featured in June to create a self portrait layout!   Along with a few other items from Stampendous, Spellbinders, The Crafter's Workshop, Heidi Swapp, Cosmo Cricket, and Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®

Our base was the glitter paper in the collection, and I shared that if you pre-treat the paper with Gel Medium the glitter will not come off.  I used the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Gel medium. Someone asked in the show if it will dull the Glitter effect -  The Answer is NO this is still super shiny. 

Look at all of this yummy texture created with the Whipped Spackle and Colorshines! 

Chipboard shapes are super popular right now, and I showed you how to use your chipboard  and Spellbinder's basic circle shapes to create these navy blue circles.

Adventures with Boo Mini Album

Hi you guys, the Marion Smith Designs creative team has compiled a collaborative post filled with Mini Album inspiration today!

For my contribution I created a small mini 3.25 x 4.5 inches long.  Where I have  documented the past year with my sweet Puppy Boo.  I know everyone is going to ask -  She is a BoxWeiler (Boxer Rottweiler mix).   We adopted her last Christmas and the past 6 months have been so fun watching her grow.

 

This box was inspired by Marion's Digi line Life Journal.   I used the Insta frames in the line to create pages.  I trimmed down pieces of Marion's printed lines and her Scarlet digi line to fit the size of the frames.  Then I Coptic stitched the book together.  Since my stitching was not so perfect, I decided to use a piece of lace to wrap around the spine.  This lace also softens the harsh edges of the spine. I used Marion's peony die, and bloom impression tool to create the flower on the cover.   Then cut flowers from the Motley papers to add a little depth. 

 

This is the perfect size book for your Instagram photos.  I printed my photos out on my color laser printer on cardstock.   I kept the design simple so that my photos really took center stage!

Urban Market Mini Album FAQ

WOW -  the response to this mini album has been super overwhelming. Everyone is really enjoying playing along with me.   I have had a lot of fun myself.

We had some great questions on the last follow up post.  SO I hope I can answer them here!

1. Julie asked:    Thank you for class last night. The photos here are lovely - shows the colors up so much better than the live broadcast. Each page has its own beauty. You mentioned in the video and on here that you would discuss alternatives to binding (although I do have the cinch I am open to other suggestions too) but I think we must have run out of time. Maybe you are thinking of doing that in your update posts. Anyway - thanks again.

I'm SOOOO SORRY  I didn't bring this up that night. I think my brain was so overwhelmed, and  I JUMPED right into creating the pages.   

Solution 1:  I found this awesome video by my Friend Tracy - From Tracy's Treasures 24 on YT.   Called "NO BIND IT ALL - NO PROBLEM!" 

Solution 2:   Use your hole punch and just use jump rings.  Here is a quick 5 hole cutting guide that I created for you! 

2. Claire aka zanysisters  asked:   Tonya, As I said in my comment on Scrapbooking with ME, last night's class was fabulous. I do have a question. I don't have have any kind of large die cut to use on the Dots paper. I can make do with border punches for the other bracket pieces. I am kind of at a loss for a solution. Any suggestions? Thank you so much 

Solution:    There are lots of options for achieving this look,  Cricut has some, as well as the Silhouette.  But if you don't have an kind of electronic cutting systems, then I have prepared this PDF with a comparable shape.   You can Download it here!    Print this out and cut along the black lines,  then use this shape as a guide for cutting your paper.  

3. If you missed the live class - you can watch the videos here.   Remember that you don't have to purchase a kit to follow along.  You can substitute these products for things that are in your stash.  I always encourage you to use what you have.  Look in your supplies and see if you can find things that are comparable!

Full of Wonder Mixed Media Layout

Hi everyone, I hope you're having an awesome week so far.  Today I'm sharing a mixed media layout of my niece Emily. I recently took this photo at Easter and the expression on her face is so precious. She's just oozing with sweetness.   I thought that the tag on the right from Marion's Mad Tea Party Collection said it all "Wonder, For the Curious At Heart the Wanderous Mind, and the Adventurous Soul"

I decided on Marion's Motley Collection  & Junque & Gems, because there are so many elements that can be fussy cut from this collection. The festive color palette was perfect for my sweet Emily! 

I used scraps from recent projects, and took this opportunity to fussy cut the elements that could be used as stand alone pieces  then cut banners from the rest. This is a great way to eliminate scraps.  Individually these small elements seem insignificant, but when clustered together, they really make a statement.

 

I used a neutral baby blue paper for the background, and then applied a few mixed media techniques to give it texture and depth.   I stuck with the hot pink tones so that my photo would really pop.  

I'm seriously in LOVE with Gold right now, and decided to spray paint some generic paper doilies with Krylon's Metalic Gold Spray Paint.  I love how they look inside my embellishment clusters, and the gold matches this collection perfectly! 

I placed my title in the bottom left hand corner inside another embellishment cluster. Her eyes were so bright in the photo I decided to include that reference in my title   "Blue Eyes Full of Wonder".  The title card was part of Mairon's Scarlet Digital collection.
