Adventures with Boo Mini Album

1
Hi you guys, the Marion Smith Designs creative team has compiled a collaborative post filled with Mini Album inspiration today!

For my contribution I created a small mini 3.25 x 4.5 inches long.  Where I have  documented the past year with my sweet Puppy Boo.  I know everyone is going to ask -  She is a BoxWeiler (Boxer Rottweiler mix).   We adopted her last Christmas and the past 6 months have been so fun watching her grow.

This box was inspired by Marion's Digi line Life Journal.   I used the Insta frames in the line to create pages.  I trimmed down pieces of Marion's printed lines and her Scarlet digi line to fit the size of the frames.  Then I Coptic stitched the book together.  Since my stitching was not so perfect, I decided to use a piece of lace to wrap around the spine.  This lace also softens the harsh edges of the spine. I used Marion's peony die, and bloom impression tool to create the flower on the cover.   Then cut flowers from the Motley papers to add a little depth.

This is the perfect size book for your Instagram photos.  I printed my photos out on my color laser printer on cardstock.   I kept the design simple so that my photos really took center stage!

Here is a complete walk through video showing each page!

I love this little mini, and I know it will be treasured in my family for a long time.

Welcome to day three of the hop!  Today I wanted to share a little mixed media card that I made for Mother's Day. This card could easily be used for any occasion by changing out the sentiment.

I used scraps from the Never Grow Up Sleep Over paper, Mad Tea Party Wonderland paper, Filigree Doily, Tea Party Stamps, Texture Stamps, and Garden Rose Stamps from Marion Smith S

Petaloo's Velvet Hydrangeas Fuchsia flowers are the star of this card.

I really wanted to showcase some of the Marion's amazing stamps on my card.  So I painted the Sleepover paper with white gesso to tone down the paper pattern. I then used Archival Coffee Ink to stamp my images.   I even stamped over the wooden filigree and the flowers, to give them texture.

This is one of my home made wooden embellishments that I made with the Tea Party stamps and a  balsa wood piece.  I did a tutorial a few months back.  You can view it here.

I added some flat back pearls to the center of the flowers, and painted them with my RV09 Copic Marker to match the flowers.

A little Heidi Swapp Gold Lame Color Shine finished this card off with the Midas touch!   I know my Mother is going to love this card.

Don't forget to check out my projects from Days 1 & 2 as well.

Hybrid Burlap Mini Album - by Tonya Gibbs

1
Hi everyone, I hope you are having an awesome weekend.  I made a little 6x6 burlap mini album in just a few hours, and thought I would share it with you today.  I used  Marion's Scarlet Digitals  along with some odd and end scraps from her Mad Tea Party and Nirvana printed lines.  I love how her printed lines and digi lines compliment each other perfectly!

I added lots of yummy layers to the cover. A few months ago I shared a tutorial on how to make the flower, and I love how it coordinates with the roses in her papers.

For the inside I used one of Tim Holtz' binder mechanisms and 4x6 photo sleeves.

Pull out those punches and dies for projects like this.  They help to add a little interest to photo mats, and make great layering elements.

The journal pages are from some of Marion's Primrose printable. I fussy cut the rose and added it to the far right so it would match the rest of the papers.

I love how this file folder serves as a pocket on one of the pages.

Tags are a great way to add multi-level pages.  Tabs also offer interest sticking out of the margins.

I used some of the ATC sized note cards from her Nirvana collection to give an extra journal spot.

The photo sleeves will offer protection for my photos, and give a nice clean finished look to the album.

This was a super fun project, and I just love it, when you can marry a bunch of itty bitty scraps, to create fabulous layers.   This little mini is going to make a gorgeous gift for one of my scrappy buddies.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Spring Shadowbox - by Tonya Gibbs

0

Hi everyone, I hope your week is off to a great start. With the weather so frigid everywhere, I wanted to create something that reminded me of spring.  I dug through some old photos and found this 5x7 of my niece Averie, and a 9x9 Shadowbox that I've been hoarding.

It all started with a mixed media tag. I bought some of the Faber Castell Design Memory Craft glaze and wanted to experiment with it.  I love to experiment on tags, and then I try to make something with the tag.   On this tag, I used modeling paste and a stencil to get the hexagons.  Then painted the entire card with a soft green paint. Then I mixed the glaze with a gold colored acrylic, wiped it across the entire tag. Waited a few minutes then used a baby wipe to clean it off. The glaze actually stayed in the recessed areas, and helped to provide shadows on my tag.    I then started playing with some of the left overs from other Marion Smith projects, and used Marion's Hot Air Balloon stamp to create a pattern for the balloon on the tag.  The little girl and the saying was cut from the Mad Tea Party collection.

Since the saying talks about seeds that grow I decided to build a little garden scene for my little girl to stand.   I used a vine as my base, then made a few flowers to cover the vine.

I removed the glass from the shadow box, and built my floral spray to spill out over the frame's edge.  I stitched together some punched scraps from Marion's Mad Tea Party line to create the banner that I placed across the top of the frame.

I just love how this frame turned out, and it is going to look fabulous on my wall.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Stocking Gift Card Holder by Tonya Gibbs

1
Hi everyone, just a few more days until Christmas, and time for me to start my wrapping.   Today, I  wanted to share with you a little gift card holder I made using Marion Smith's Nirvana and Mad Tea Party collection.

For the stocking I used the Bliss page from the Nirvana Collection.

Then I used the Tim Holtz Poinsettia die and cut the b-side of the Alice Paper to make the flower.  I have a tutorial on my YouTube channel that shows how to make the flower.

I used the Typograph stamp to personalize the gift tag.

The flower actually holds the flap down when the stocking is closed.

I love how elegant this gift card holder looks.  I think it would also be super cute for a baby shower.   The stocking shape is a cut file in the Silhouette store by Lori Whitlock

Thanks for stopping in today.  I hope you guys have a super awesome Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Curiosities Layout by Tonya Gibbs

0
When I first saw Nirvana I knew it was going to be one of my all time favorite collections.  I love the neutral design. This collection is on its way to becoming a CLASSIC in my scrappy world!   Today I'm going to share with you a Christmas layout with some of the scraps from my previous projects.

My photo was taken with my phone and ran through an Instagram filter.  Yes, I had just gotten the ap and did this with every photo (haaaaaa).  While the quality of the photo isn't perfect, it is trendy and fun with the high pass faded colors and lens blurs.  I loved how I captured that one moment of curiosity in her face - pure bliss and so precious.  This photo had to be scrapped!

curiosities layout using Marion Smith Designs Nirvana and Mad Tea Party Line. Layout designed by Tonya Gibbs.

To mimic the softness in the photo, I decided to watercolor my background.  I used Gelatos from Faber Castle Design Memory Craft on white watercolor paper.  For texture I made a ruffle out of crape paper streamers.  The ruffle reminds me of  a tree skirt.

For the Christmas tree. I decided to keep the tree simple, and free of ornaments. It was already so full that I didn't want it to compete anymore with my small photo.  The Gold Color Shine gave the sparkle but kept the simplicity.

To create the tree, I punched scraps of the following  Nirvana designs with the Martha Stewart Medium Branch Punch.

Most of the tree was punched from the B side of this paper. I love the look of the ledgers when punched.    The Curiosities title on the A side was perfect for my layout title.

Both sides of this paper were perfect.

I used the A side of this paper.

I started at the top, then formed a triangle overlapping the branches for a dense look. Apply glue only to the base of  the leaf, so that the tips can be elevated.  I made sure all my branches where pointed upward except the ones on the sides, they were tilted to a slight angle.   To give a spruce look, I focused on the brown tones towards the bottom, and the bluish green punched pieces on the top layers.   This variation in color gives depth to your tree.  The text and patterns on the paper give interest.

For the stack of presents under the tree I used the Tim Holtz Collection Sizzix Bigz Die - Packages & Bows with scraps of these papers from Marion's Nirvana and Mad Tea Party Lines.

I think this layout is going down as one of my all time favorites.  I love the softness, and sheer elegance of the design.   I know I hit a home run when my teenage boy walked in and said "hey that tree is cool!"

Thanks for stopping in today.
