Class of 2015 Mixed Media Layout

1

Happy fall everyone! I've been away for a while - have you missed me? This time of year is a MESS in my world. Just busy busy with lots going on in my personal life. Today, with the kids back in a school, and lots of "sports" photos being taken, I thought I would share with you a masculine layout to inspire you to scrap those teen school photos. My Son graduated last year, and the photo taken here, was one we used in his senior announcement.

I gathered up lots of Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® to create a colorful background for my black and white photo.   I just love all the texture and grunge.

What teen doesn't have music blaring 24/7? So I used Gel Medium to add music tissue paper to the background. The Boysenberry Gelatos® was the perfect blue to add color to my white card stock and represent his school colors of red and blue.   Once it was dry, I applied Whipped Spackle through the School House Stencil from Tim Holtz. This gave me some subtle texture.  For my journal area, I add a list of Brighton's top 10 details from his Senior year.

I also used the Boysenberry Gelatos® and the Tim Holtz Stars Stencil to add a few grungy stars to my background.  I created a wash with the Double Scoops® Red Cherry® and used a bottle to add a few circles in areas around the background.   For more texture, I used my Stamper's Big Brush Pen in Black as a stamping ink with some grungy texture stamps from Tim Holtz.

I also gathered a few items that I thought would set the tone for a "school" themed layout.  Since my Son is a HUGE lover of all things historical, I figured a page from the Life of Abraham Lincoln would make the perfect photo mat. I also pulled a few mini file folders, notebook paper, grid paper, dictionary paper with the football definition visible to add to my photo mat layers.  If your son is anything like mine, his homework always looked like it had been stuffed in the bottom of a back pack for weeks.  To achieve this look, a crumpled up the papers and used the Nougat Stamper's Big Brush Artist pen to distress the edges.  I also wanted the entire piece to have a messy handwritten look, so I hand wrote my journaling and titles. To finish off the embellishment clusters, I used tickets and charms for my ephemera. Heidi Swapp's chipboard stars added depth, and show he is my "All-Star".

Here is a quick video showing how I created the layout.

Thanks for stopping in today,  I hope you have a great weekend.

August 4 Ustream Recap

1

Wow we had a fantastic time last Monday night. Lots of Yummy techniques using our Gelatos®, Whipped Spackle, Gesso, Gel Medium, and Glaze from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®, Bo Bunny Sentiments, Heidi Swapp Stencil, and Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor paper.

As always thank you to the Scrapbooking with M.E. Boutique for managing the sales of the kits, and to their amazing Design Team for promoting and following up with future posts using these products!

In the show we created 4 very different card designs!

On this card, I showed you how to avoid "mud" and create colorful backgrounds.  We mixed the Margarita and Watermelon Gelatos® to create this lovely orange that we mixed with the Whipped Spackle for texture and depth. I also demoed how to resist with Gesso.

I showed how the Gelatos® look on a black cardstock.  I love that they look just like chalk!  So pretty. This card could easily be a masculine card by changing out the feminine colors.

On this card, we did a resist with embossing powder.  I also showed you how to combine stamps in the set to create a word cloud effect, and interesting background!

And finally we used the Gelatos® as a watercolor medium. Sometimes "Mud" is what you really want. Like when I created the tree branch above.   So I showed you how to use the Margarita Mix, Snow Cone, and Raspberry Gelatos® to create a pastel brown.

Congrats to our winner - Jeanie Ellis on being our winner of the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Mixed Media Kit!

Here is a link to the Playlist with all three parts of the video tutorial.

In addition to the supplies above, I also used the following:

  • Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® PITT® Stamper's Big Brush Artist Pen in Black
  • Studio Calico - Wood Veneer Bird
  • Cardstock  Black, White, and Cream
  • Cuttlebug Embossing Jacket - James' set
  • Twine
  • Die-Namite Dies Flowering Branch Die
  • Die-Namite Dies Swirly Butterfly
  • Prima Flower
  • Sequins
  • Tissue Paper (white)
  • Butterfly Stamp (brand unknown)
  • Stampendous Dream Text Stamp
Thank you so much to everyone who came to the show live.  I hope those of you joining in the recordings have as much fun as we did live.   Share with me in the comments below how you use your Gelatos®.

The September Ustream Kit is up for sale now!  Make sure you grab yours before it is gone!

Full Bloom Chalkboard for Faber Castell Design Memory Craft

0

Hi everyone,  I'm super excited to bring  you today's project. I've created this Chalkboard Art that would make an awesome gift for someone.   This project is one of those that started out being one thing and ended up being something totally different.  I started out wanting to make watercolor card gift sets to share with friends. But when I finished the Art Panel it was just too beautiful to turn into a card. It needed to be displayed on a wall!

I have created a process video that is included in the post on the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Website.

Glue Dots Marion Smith Designs Blog Hop

14

Hi everyone - I'm excited to be hopping along with you today with Glue Dots® & Marion Smith Designs. Make sure to visit both Brand's blogs from June 6 - June 8! There are so many amazing projects being shared!

Make sure you comment and subscribe to each blog, as we will be picking some lucky winners to win some awesome new products from both Marion Smith Designs and Glue Dots®!

Links to each blog can be found on the following sites Marion Smith Designs and Glue Dots®

Today, I'm sharing with you a tutorial on how I created these lovely yellow flowers using Marion Smith's new Bloom Impression Tool, Rose Die and Glue Dots® in 1 inch and 2 inches.

Tutorial....

I used Marion's Peony Petal die for the purple roses and the rose die for the Yellow Roses.  The more petals you use the fuller your flower will appear!

Start by using Marion's Rose Petal Die to cut out about 20 cuts of the Large and Small die.  Color them all with your favorite mist.  I used Tattered Angel's Sunshine.  For this flower, I also used Georgia Pacific 110lb Cardstock.

Wad each petal into a ball and allow to dry for about 15 - 30 mins. You want your flowers to be damp, but not WET.  A good judge is if you lay it on a surface and the surface is damp then wait a bit longer.  If the paper is too wet, it will rip.  Too dry - and it doesn't want to shape!  It may take some practice getting the right feel for the amount of dampness.

Place the petal onto the tool so that the edge of the die, is laid on top of the rim of the tool, and allow the remaining portions to spill into the center cavity.

Place the cover over the top of the bottom piece.  Twist the tool from side to side.  Remove the blossom.

This is how your petals should appear!  I repeated this process for all the petals.

This is a photo of the finished petals.  You will need about 20 petals/flower

I used a 2" glue dot and adhered a 2" circle to the top of the dot.

Remove the packaging from the back of the glue dot, and begin to layer your petals around the circle with the Glue Dot surface up.  The Glue Dot has a Super Strong bond.

I recommend  4 large petals on the bottom layer. Overlapping them slightly

Next, attach a 1 inch Glue Dot to the center of the cluster, and begin to add your second layer of petals offsetting them so that your second layer is in-between the gaps of the bottom layer's petals.

Repeat this step until your flower is your desired thickness.   Use the smaller petals as you get to the top of the flower.

Remove a 2 inch glue dot from it's packaging.

Roll the dot in your hand to form a ball as you remove it from the package. Don't "over" handle the dot or it will lose its stickiness.  Place the rolled Dot into the center of the flower cluster.

Pour Micro beads into the center of your flower over the Glue Dot.

Use your finger to firmly press the beads into the Glue Dot.

Shake off excess Micro beads.  They stick by static cling sometimes, so a paintbrush can be used to remove them from unwanted areas.

 Here is your finished flower.

I created this lovely canvas to showcase my beautiful flowers.   The purple flowers were made the same way, however, I used the Peony die in place of the Rose petal.

I used Marion's new Motley collection and Junque and Gems to create this mixed media canvas.

Thank you for hopping along with Marion Smith Designs & Glue Dots. Don't forget to leave a comment and Subscribe while your here.

Rainy Days of Summer by Tonya Gibbs

2
Hey everyone, I bet some of you are ready for a little sunshine.  I know I am!   I was thumbing through some old Facebook photos and ran across this photo of my nephew Cooper when he was about 3 years old.  My sister-in law had taken them to the park to play in the rain, and captured the perfect photo collection!  So fun.  I wanted my layout to mimic the fun times shared during this photo shoot.

Marion's Never Grow Up Collection is perfect for this Rainy Days of Summer layout! It is full of playful images and vibrant colors.  I love that this collection can be masculine and feminine.   Here is a sample of the products that I used from Marion's lines.

I used my Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Pitt Artist Pens on the texture stamps from Marion's winter release,  to add depth and texture to the plain cardstock.   Pitt pens are made with India ink and have a slow dry time on a prepped surface allowing for blending. However, on a non-prep surface they make an awesome permanent ink solution!

I added splashes of aqua watercolor paint to mimic that rainy day, and ground my photo to the layout.  Lots of yummy ephemera were cut from the collection to give the layout that "all boy" feel.   The journaling spot was a scrap from Marion's Digi line!  Here is a glimpse at the final layout!

I just love how playful this layout is.  These colors remind me of how vibrant it is in the summer just  after a rain shower.

Thanks for stopping in today,

Tonya Gibbs
