Austyn Layout Using Harmony by Authentique

2

I hope everyone is ready for another fun week.  I got to spend some time in my creative world this past weekend, which makes me super HAPPY!  Today I'm sharing a mixed media layout I created of my Niece, Austyn.

Harmony by Authentique Layout designed by Tonya A. Gibbs

I fell in love with the Harmony Collection from Authentique the minute I saw it! Expect lots of projects with this line.  The paper has a nice weight and texture, and the patterns are soft and pretty!  Pairing them with Petaloo's Burlap Blossoms and Butterflies just seemed natural!

I really wanted a WOW factor for this layout. Something dramatic!  I used the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®  Gelatos® to color the layout's accent pieces, and give life to my die-cuts, flowers and butterflies.

Look at these GORGEOUS flowers I drew with the Peach, Tangerine, Pistachio, and White Gelatos® They really give an element of elegance to this layout, and make my niece appear as though she is sitting in a garden.

I pulled out the Hoppy Flowers & Flower Branch Dies from Die-Namites. They offer the most delicate filler and really help to give this layout depth.   I colored the Flowering Branch die with the Pistachio Gelatos® and look at how it went from a flowering branch to an Ivy branch!

I removed "Hoppy" the Cricket from the Hoppy Flowers die and it transformed the die into the perfect corner spray! Just look at how cute "Hoppy" the Cricket is perched in that floral spray in the photo below!

Full of Wonder Mixed Media Layout

0

Hi everyone, I hope you're having an awesome week so far.  Today I'm sharing a mixed media layout of my niece Emily. I recently took this photo at Easter and the expression on her face is so precious. She's just oozing with sweetness.   I thought that the tag on the right from Marion's Mad Tea Party Collection said it all "Wonder, For the Curious At Heart the Wanderous Mind, and the Adventurous Soul"

I decided on Marion's Motley Collection  & Junque & Gems, because there are so many elements that can be fussy cut from this collection. The festive color palette was perfect for my sweet Emily!

I used scraps from recent projects, and took this opportunity to fussy cut the elements that could be used as stand alone pieces  then cut banners from the rest. This is a great way to eliminate scraps.  Individually these small elements seem insignificant, but when clustered together, they really make a statement.

I used a neutral baby blue paper for the background, and then applied a few mixed media techniques to give it texture and depth.   I stuck with the hot pink tones so that my photo would really pop.

I'm seriously in LOVE with Gold right now, and decided to spray paint some generic paper doilies with Krylon's Metalic Gold Spray Paint.  I love how they look inside my embellishment clusters, and the gold matches this collection perfectly!

I placed my title in the bottom left hand corner inside another embellishment cluster. Her eyes were so bright in the photo I decided to include that reference in my title   "Blue Eyes Full of Wonder".  The title card was part of Mairon's Scarlet Digital collection.

We would love to see what you have created with Marion's gorgeous lines. Don't forget to #MarionSmithDesigns when you share your Marion Smith Designs Projects in Social Media.

Spring Shadowbox - by Tonya Gibbs

0

Hi everyone, I hope your week is off to a great start. With the weather so frigid everywhere, I wanted to create something that reminded me of spring.  I dug through some old photos and found this 5x7 of my niece Averie, and a 9x9 Shadowbox that I've been hoarding.

It all started with a mixed media tag. I bought some of the Faber Castell Design Memory Craft glaze and wanted to experiment with it.  I love to experiment on tags, and then I try to make something with the tag.   On this tag, I used modeling paste and a stencil to get the hexagons.  Then painted the entire card with a soft green paint. Then I mixed the glaze with a gold colored acrylic, wiped it across the entire tag. Waited a few minutes then used a baby wipe to clean it off. The glaze actually stayed in the recessed areas, and helped to provide shadows on my tag.    I then started playing with some of the left overs from other Marion Smith projects, and used Marion's Hot Air Balloon stamp to create a pattern for the balloon on the tag.  The little girl and the saying was cut from the Mad Tea Party collection.

Since the saying talks about seeds that grow I decided to build a little garden scene for my little girl to stand.   I used a vine as my base, then made a few flowers to cover the vine.

I removed the glass from the shadow box, and built my floral spray to spill out over the frame's edge.  I stitched together some punched scraps from Marion's Mad Tea Party line to create the banner that I placed across the top of the frame.

I just love how this frame turned out, and it is going to look fabulous on my wall.

Scarlet Layout

0
I'm having so much fun playing around with Marion's Scarlet collection. I've made three very different layouts now.   I'm well on my way to getting the photo book printed by Christmas!

A few days ago I featured this layout on the Marion Smith Design Team blog. If you are not a subbie there, please go over and take a look.  There will be two posts a day there including weekends!

A few months ago my daughter Brittany came home with this adorable haircut, and we just had to do an impromptu photo shoot on our front porch.  You can tell from the photos, Brittany has a fun personality and I really wanted that to show in the layout.  So I made sure the photo frames were trendy and fun.  The slight tilt and different sizes make them fun and whimsical.

For this layout I used the following patterns from the Scarlet collection to create the layers

Chalkboards are so popular right now, and I was glad that Marion provided one for journaling in the collection.  I used the chalkboard to emphaise my title.  Since my husband nicknamed Brittany Sunshine when she was born, I felt it was a great title for the page.  I wanted a few more details on the layout like "her name and the date of the photos" so I used the space on the photo frames for these minor details.

I love how versital the patterns are in this collection.   This photo book is going to be stunning when it is finished.

Averie Kay - Mixed Media

3
It is so much fun watching my pages evolve as the trends change.  My latest obsession is mixed media, and I love incorporating it into my scrapbook projects. While I've been doing this for a few years, I love how my technique has evolved. I just can't get enough of the stencils, molding paste, India inks, and gesso. I mean really -  this takes dirty to an entirely new level.

In today's share - I wanted to showcase this layout that I created of my Niece Averie. The picture was taken last year during an impromptu photo shoot.  She just propped up and I snapped. Tell me she isn't a natural!

This piece is mounted on a piece of Donna Salzar's Corrugated Card board that was distressed and painted with white gesso.  Then a sheet of Prima Madeline Parkway paper was used for the backdrop. I ripped it, tore it, and distressed it with the new Prima Distress tool. Then to add texture, I glued down all the scraps laying on my desk which included pieces of a doily, hymnal pages, linen strips, and I also included a few strips of Masking tape. I tried not to glue the edges of these elements down so that I could "fluff " them up for texture.   Then I used the stencil and molding paste to add even more texture.  Once the molding paste dried (over night), I then gave the entire background a coat of gesso to make all the elements become cohesive.  To define certain areas of the background I sprinkled a few drops around the canvas of the Iced Spruce Distress reinker.  Then spritzed it with water to dilute it and make it drip.  I love how the background is soft yet course with texture.

I then began to work with my floral spray and layered elements. All the metal pieces were different colors and I found this distracting.  So I grabbed my Snow Cap alcohol ink, and began recoloring them.  This helped them blend into the background, I then dry brushed a bit of the Prima Worn Jean Chalk over the top to give them a little more pop.  The burgundy roses in the Tendrils Grape vine were a bit too bright, so I dry brushed some gesso over them.  I love how this technique made them look shabby like they were part of the wall when it was painted.

I tucked a tag in behind the picture so that I could write Ms. Averie a message.  I think that journaling becomes distracting when I use these as canvases on my wall. However, I feel that journaling is important so I try to hide it somewhere on the layout or place it on the back.  To make the tag blend better with the layout - I distressed it with the Iced Spruce, and Antique Linen. Then I tied off a shabby torn piece of seam binding that I had died with the Ice Spruce.  This made it more elegant, and called attention to the fact that it needed to be pulled out.

Who would have thought that you could take all those grungy supplies and create something this beautiful?

Thanks you all for stopping in today.

Distress Markers - How to

0
I have had a ball playing with my distress markers.  I decided to make a card for my niece's 7th birthday that is the first week of Sept.
I colored two images of the Ms. Anya Hats from - The Greeting Farm, and cut pieces of her out and popped them up on pop dots to giver her more depth.  She was colored with the Tim Holtz Distress Markers, then placed on a sheet of the Celebration's Paper from Webster's Pages.

Webster's Pages Celebration 6x6, Trims, Roses, Tim Holtz Distress Markers.  Making Memories #7, Baker's Twine, Washi Tape, The Greeting Farm -  Ms. Anya Hats, and Inkadinkadoo - Birthday Stamp.

For a complete step by Step of me coloring Ms. Anya.  Please watch this video.

Here is a video of me making the card:
