Making Waves for Yvonne Blair Designs

0
Happy New Year everyone! I got to bring my New Year  in on the beach, and felt inspired to create a
journal page from this great stamp from Yvonne's collection.

http://www.iostamps.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=C17134&Store_Code=IOSTAMPS&search=waves&searchoffset=&filter_cat=&PowerSearch_Begin_Only=&sort=&range_low=&range_high=

For today's post, I'm using Yvonne's special Journal in 4x8.

Here is a quick 15 minute video on how I created this page:

I wanted to keep this page simple, and let the quote speak for itself.  So I printed a moon image from the internet, and painted myself  a giant wave!  Here you can see the texture left behind by the thick paint and the variations of paint color.  I love the contrast of the copper embossing powder on the sea foam greens.

Here is a final glimpse at the Journal Page.   You can see the moon peek-a-booing out of the far left corner.  It is hard to tell what it is at first glance, but I know what it is.

I really believe that you have to sometime make a few waves to make a difference in your life every now and then.  If we move through life afraid to shake things up, then we never seem to get anywhere.  This page will serve as my reminder to not be afraid to ride one of those waves and see where it takes me! I hope you enjoyed this page. Thanks for hanging out with me today, I hope you had fun, and learned a few new techniques.

Imagine the Possibilities for Yvonne Blair Designs

0

Oh imagine the possibilities when you say I'll try instead of I can't.  Well today I have a fun little project for you to try.  A little doodle art.  I'm using these great stamps from Yvonne Blair, to finish off my project, to create the perfect card!

Everyday Holds

These little doodle projects are easy to do and I find them very therapeutic.  You can easily complete one in a matter of minutes, and look at how fabulous they look on cards.

You can keep them black and white or watercolor them like I did here to give them more interest.  The possibilities are endless.  I think these little guys would be fabulous on Christmas cards, Birthday cards, and even Holiday Tags.    If you only filled in part of the circle they would even be interesting.

Here is the inside of the card:

Here is a quick video to show you how it is done.

Wasn't that easy as pie?   Ok I want to start seeing the internet filled with doodle wreaths.  If you decide to do one, make sure you #YBArtGirlFun  in social media so I can see what you did!

Thanks for stopping in today.

Simple Poinsettia Watercolor turotorial

0

Merry Christmas everyone!   I just love this time of year!  I've been getting my Christmas cards ready to be mailed.  Today I wanted to share with you a simple way to watercolor that takes very little time, but looks like you spent hours. The best part - these cards are flat, and can easily be mailed!

For today's focal point, I stamped this gorgeous stamp by Stampendous!   It comes with a mask/stencil which comes in handy for layering larger projects or painting negative spaces.   As you can see the stamp fills an A2 card nicely!  There is a coordinating die for this stamp set that is sold separately.

I recommend a heavy card stock if you plan to emboss your stamping like I did.  I would use a stock that is 80 - 110lb if possible.   Watercolor paper could be used, but the stamping may not be crisp.

Card dimensions:
The cardstock is cut at 4 1/4 inches  x 11 inches  then scored at 5 1/2 inches  so it is a top folding card
Interior Panels:   4inches x 5 inches

Here is a glimpse at my finished card:

For a super simple watercolor method where you don't have to be too persnickety about colors mixing, try heat embossing your stamped image. The enameled raised edges give boundaries for the water to pool and help keep your pigment trapped.  While you may experience a little wicking it will be minimal, and you won't have to be too fussy.  I really love the richness the gold embossing offers to the overall look of the card.

To watercolor my card I created a palette with an ice tray using this watercolor set. You can see how I did this in my September  Ustream!

Here is the video where I created the card:

Who wouldn't enjoy receiving a hand painted card.  These are just gorgeous!   Thank you so much for hanging out with me today!

Distress Pens

0
So I finally got a chance to play with my Distress Markers from Tim Holtz that I purchased from Flamingo Scraps as a pre-order.

These markers are so much fun, they have a watercolor quality - but react a little different than water colors since the colors replace each other rather than contaminate.

The flower on this card is a Prima stamp that I colored with the TH markers on the Ranger stamping paper. Coloring took some getting used to, but I like how the design looks like I colored it with my Copic markers.

I decided to use the image on a card.

From Flamingo Scraps: Ranger: Tim Holtz Distress Markers, Ornamental Die, Distress inks: Tea Dye; Prima: Rose Stamp, Antques Stamp, packaging (So Happy banner); Graphic 45: Bottle Stamps; Webster's Pages: Trims, Misc. Laces; Pink Paislee Packaging, Frame stamp - Soree, Stampendous: Frantage - Shabby Blue.
Other: Tonic Punch: dotted scallop, Cherry Lynn Designs: Doily Die, Studio G: Stamp "Delight in the Little Things", Spellbinders: Label 5, My Mind's Eye: Tea Pot stamp.

I used the packaging from a Pink Paislee stamp set as the background, I also used packaging from the Rose Prima stamp set for the banner that says "So happy". I love upcycling the packaging when I can.

The bottle is from Graphic 45's new stamp Curosity Shoppe Perfume Bottles. I stamped it with Archival Ink on transparency, then warped it with my heat gun to make it look dimensional.

The tea pot was a My Mind's Eye stamp that was embossed with the new Frantage Embossing Enamel, and the cup was actually another stamped image from the tea pot, but I cut it down to make it into a cup.

To create the sign behind the vase I layered a Prima Printery stamp for the words and the Frame from a Pink Paislee - Soree stamp set.

The clock was cut from a piece of scrap paper on my desk. The table cloth was a punch scrap.

Then I added Lace and Trims to the bottom, and stamp that says "Delight in the little things" as the sentiment.

I hope you enjoy this card share today,

Sew Cute Card

0

Wednesday, I received the new Maya Road Sew Cute and Still Sew Cute chipboard pieces from Flamingo Scraps, and I couldn't wait to use them.

Aren't these the cutes little shape? I needed to make a birthday card for a friend and she LOVES dress forms and sewing themed items. Her favorite colors are pink, lavender, and black so I reached into my stash and pulled out the Hollywood Vogue paper from Webster's pages, and whipped out this card. I'm so addicted to making these easel cards. They are super easy and I love how they are easily displayed.

From Flamingo Scraps: Maya Road: Sew Cute Chipboard Pieces, Still Sew Cute Chipboard Pieces, Webster's Pages: Hollywood Vogue - Shine A Light Paper, Tim Holtz: Baroque Die. Other: Trims, Recollections: Roses, Stampendous: Fran-tage, Lace, MFT Doily Die, Sewing Pattern

So, you may be wondering what I did to achieve that awesome rustic look on the sewing machine and the dress form. Well it is embossing enamel called "Fran-tage" from Stampendous and after seeing this demo - "The Big Pink Bird" has decided to carry it. So look for it in the store in the next few days.

Fran-tage Enamel is a unique blend of chunky embossing enamal, glitter and mica. Each color has a multi-colored effect and when melted mimics marble, and granite.

The dress form was embossed with "Shabby Pink" and it is a combo of Pink and White Enamel with gold glitter. I love how the glitter is fused into the embossing enamel and doesn't rub off. The sew machine was embossed with Aged Silver which is a mix of Pewter, Gold and Flat Black.

I can't wait to play with these, and share more awesome techniques. I know I will never run out of this in my stash - EVER!

Thanks for stopping in today,
