We created a mixed media canvas based on my Pastor's sermon last week regarding "releasing your baggage". The just of the sermon was that you can't carry around harbored feelings, you have to let it go or it will bog you down. Our Pastor used a suit case to illustrate his point. I was so inspired in this message, that I immediately began thinking about this canvas.
For the doll I used the following Copic colors for her Hair and Skin.
Hair: E37, E55, E30
Face: E50, E11, E01, R20
Dress: BV23 , Colorless blender.

I wrote the scriptures that he used in the sermon onto the Tim Holtz Valise die to remind me that I've given my baggage to God and I can't take it back. Here are the verses:
Matthew 11:28
Proverbs 13:12
Jeremiah 6:14
Hebrews 12:1
James 5:16
Romans 12:2
Romans 12:3
Romans 6:23
Revelations 1:18
Ephesians 4:26 -27
1 John 1:8
2 Corinthians 10: 3-4
1 Peter 5:7
I used an old hymnal to die cut the wings to symbolize the flight of my baggage. The title of the Hymn was "Look to Jesus" and I also included it at the bottom.
Here is the Ustream archive of me making the canvas.

Tonya this was a wonderful project! I am a Ustream junkie and not only did this canvas turn out to be so inspiring but YOU and your conversation really touched my heart! So many times we are told we cannot speak about our faith and God and yet you let your heart guide you and touch us. Thank you so much for a wonderful journey with this work of art and look forward to more inspiration in 2014!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this message. I am a woman of Faith and that Faith is the only thing that keeps me going sometimes. It means a lot to me that you took the time to encourage me. I'm so happy you enjoyed the show. I love that God used me that night. He placed that piece on my heart Sunday, and I'm so thankful that I listened to him on Tuesday!
DeleteI know I am a little late viewing, but this is simply beautiful. What a very therapeutic creative way to release, let go and let GOD have his way. Thank you for sharing Tonya. I am so inspired and will try this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words. I'm so happy I could inspire you. I often find myself in studio praying and speaking with God while I create. I love that when I'm done, I have no idea what I did, but the end result is amazing. It is like I'm no longer in control, but my hands are guided by God. When scripture pops into my head during this time, I always look it up. It is usually the answer to my thoughts. I really feel connected to God when this happens. If you have never tried this, you should grab an art journal and begin.
