2

Hi everyone, I'm excited to share with you this layout that I've created for the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Blog®  I used Gelatos® Double Scoops®  to create the dramatic background with some of my Crafter's Workshop Stencils.

Please hop on over to the blog to get the details. I have also shared a process video on the blog post.

Thanks for stopping over today.

Fright Night Layout by Tonya Gibbs

1
Ok, how many of you are now on a sugar overload?  Go ahead raise your hands. I know you were hoarding all the good chocolates for yourself!   Come on confess....
Just kidding.....

My nephew, Cooper, came over a few hours last weekend and we carved a pumpkin. Then had a scary vampire photo shoot.

For today's project, I decided to use the paper and embellishment packs that were left over from my Sept. Ustream class.  In that class we used Basic Grey's Persimmon line. My objective was to use as much of the left overs as possible and kill off this kit.

To make this process fun, I decided to give myself a few prompts.

PROMPT 1:  Use Burlap and Jute. I love the look of burlap and jute twine on a fall layout.  I think the natural tones really help to enforce the theme of fall, and give your layouts an organic element.

PROMPT 2:  Use chunky glitter nail polish and dark pens to help your title pop!  The nail polish gives a glossy texture to the lettering, and the glitter looks like bubbly potion (haaa) or night time stars.  The dark outline around the letters gives them depth and weight, making your spooky title pop!

PROMPT 3:  Use navy blue instead of black on your Halloween layouts!  One thing I liked about the Persimmon line, is its use of navy blue instead of black.  Love the unexpected color shift from the traditional black. Since chalkboards are super trendy right now, I used the solid navy blue from the 6x6 paper pad, and a white gel pen for my journaling.

PROMPT 4:  Die cut your scraps from the collection and use them immediately. Gather up the scraps from this collection, pull those punches out of hiding, and eliminate the scrap pile! Great layers have multiple items of different sizes and textures. I used a Fiskar's Leaf punch and a small scrap of the patterned paper for my leaves.  Then another EK Success labels punch for another accent.  I challenge you to free your punches/dies and start making elements to use for layers.

My favorite neutral punches/die shapes are:  hexagons, banners, tickets, birds, butterflies, branches, leaves, flowers, cameras, labels, frames, hearts, arrows, chevrons, doilies, tabs, and tags.   All of these can be used anytime, and any place.  Your objective is to USE THOSE SCRAPS.

Here is a process video on me completing this layout.

I hope you have enjoyed this layout share.

Trick or Treat - Halloween 2012

0
Mr. Cooper, my 5 year old Nephew, decided this year he wanted to be the "Dark Knight" for Halloween. I asked him why, and he said "Because he is cooler than Spiderman".  I believe he was Spiderman last year (lol).  I love to ask all the little ones year after year, why they have decided on their costumes. It is a fun way to add journaling to your layouts, and makes for interesting topics as they get older.

This year, I used Marion's digi downloads from the Something Wicked Halloween Mini Album to create my 12x12 layout.  By layering the smaller designs and fussy cutting out the iconic elements, I was able to make the layout interesting and fun.

I dropped some Tattered Angels - Clam Bake - Glimmer Mist on the background cardstock,  then blew on the droplets, to create a splattered effect.

I have shared many times, that I love incorporating older products. Sometimes you need to give them a fresh look to match newer lines or themes.  The chipboard letters that spell out Treat were PINK - yes - PINK, and I painted them with Orange Extreme Glitter Paint from Plaid. It took several coats to hide the pink - but it was well worth it.  I used the heat tool to bubbled up the paint, so that it would look grungy.   The buttons were a set of old buttons from 2002 Daisy Dee (who is no longer in business) - it is nice to have them completely used and out of my stash.  From the scrap pile, I used some scrap canvas that I had painted orange for a Prima BAP layout, to create the tab.   Since I didn't have enough letters to spell out Trick or, I just hand wrote them on the canvas.  The 2012 is a piece of Mylar confetti that I got for Brittany's Graduation party.  I love to collect these, they make great date references on your projects.

The real treat here - is the joy I get seeing the kids excited.  I love when they ring my door bell, I act scared, and they just giggle.

Thanks for stopping in today,
